Amends the Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act. In a provision allowing students in the public schools to voluntarily engage in individually initiated, non-disruptive prayer, provides that such praying may take place at any time during the school day. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act is |
| 5 | | amended by changing Section 5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 20/5)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 5. Student prayer. In order that the right of every
|
| 8 | | student to the free exercise of religion is guaranteed within |
| 9 | | the public
schools and that each student has the freedom to not |
| 10 | | be subject to
pressure from the State either to engage in or to |
| 11 | | refrain from religious
observation on public school grounds,
|
| 12 | | students in the public schools may, at any time during the |
| 13 | | school day, voluntarily engage in individually initiated, |
| 14 | | non-disruptive prayer that,
consistent with the
Free Exercise |
| 15 | | and Establishment Clauses of the United States and Illinois
|
| 16 | | Constitutions, is not sponsored, promoted, or endorsed
in any |
| 17 | | manner by the school or any school employee.
