| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Barry Leon Nixon of Venice, Florida, who |
| 4 | | passed away on October 8, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Barry Nixon was born in Bloomington on February |
| 6 | | 18, 1941 to Paul and Lois Nixon; he graduated from Mansfield |
| 7 | | High School in 1958 and Eastern Illinois University in 1962; |
| 8 | | and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Barry Nixon began his teaching and coaching career |
| 10 | | at Bloomington High School, where he discovered his love of |
| 11 | | tennis; he led the Raiders to 2 State titles and multiple |
| 12 | | individual championships; he was a member of the Illinois High |
| 13 | | School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame and received |
| 14 | | numerous other awards and recognitions; after retiring in 1994, |
| 15 | | he became the men's tennis coach at Illinois State University |
| 16 | | until 1999; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Barry Nixon is survived by his wife and best |
| 18 | | friend, Peggy Nixon; his sister, Dixie Mulligan; his sons, |
| 19 | | Steve Nixon and Eric (Ellen) Nixon; his step-sons, Erik (Annie) |
| 20 | | Borling and Karl Borling; his granddaughter, Julia; and his |
| 21 | | grandson, Brett; therefore, be it
