SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Judge Garry William Bryan; and

WHEREAS, Judge Garry Bryan was born on October 8, 1953 in Harvey; his parents were George W. and Helen Bryan; he began his childhood in Harvey before moving to Naperville, where he met Joyce, the love of his life, in high school; they married in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Judge Garry Bryan graduated magna cum laude in 1977 from Lewis University in Romeoville, earning a bachelor's degree in English; he subsequently earned his law degree from The John Marshall Law School in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Judge Garry Bryan had a long and distinguished legal career; he worked for the Public Defender's Office and the State's Attorneys Appellate Service Commission and served as a clerk for the Honorable A. G. Webber, III; he subsequently practiced with the law firm Moss, Bryan & Moss, P.C. from 1988 to 2008; in 2008, he was appointed to fill a vacancy as Circuit Judge of DeWitt County; he ran unopposed for election in November of 2010; and

WHEREAS, Judge Garry Bryan was very passionate about his work with the DeWitt County Drug Court and believed that drug court provides individuals struggling with addiction an opportunity to address their substance abuse issues and successfully contribute to society; and

WHEREAS, Judge Garry Bryan was an avid fisherman, connoisseur of fine wine, and gardener; he enjoyed growing orchids, faceting gemstones, and preparing gourmet meals for his friends and family; and

WHEREAS, A "Memorial Docket" was held in honor of Judge Garry Bryan and his work on November 14, 2014; the docket was presided over by the Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court, Rita B. Garman, and was attended by many legal figures, including the Honorable Dan Flannell, Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court; and

WHEREAS, Judge Garry Bryan is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce; 2 sons, Jason Bryan (Michele Carroll) and Jeremy (Amber) Bryan; 2 granddaughters, Mackenzie and Marley Bryan; a brother, Corey (Lorraine Gallagher) Bryan; and his many beloved family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Judge Garry William Bryan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Judge Garry Bryan as an expression of our sympathy.
