| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of James Deanes; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, James Deanes was employed with the Chicago Public |
| 5 | | School system for almost 20 years in roles that included |
| 6 | | special assistant to the President of the Chicago Board of |
| 7 | | Education; he retired from CPS in 2013 as senior policy adviser |
| 8 | | for Local School Council relations; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, James Deanes was a driving force behind the school |
| 10 | | reform movement that created the Local School Council model |
| 11 | | still largely in use today; he was appointed in 1987 by the |
| 12 | | late Mayor Harold Washington to lead the Parent Community |
| 13 | | Council, which helped persuade Illinois lawmakers to pass |
| 14 | | legislation creating the LSCs, giving parents more of a role in |
| 15 | | their children's education; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, James Deanes was an active member of his |
| 17 | | community; he started youth baseball teams in the Austin |
| 18 | | neighborhood, led anti-drug marches on Saturday nights, and |
| 19 | | served on PTAs, councils, and other school organizations; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, James Deanes was preceded in death by his wife, |
| 21 | | Evelyn; and
