| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Roger L. Veatch of Thomasville, North |
| 4 | | Carolina, formerly of Oak Park, who passed away on June 10, |
| 5 | | 2014; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Roger Veatch was born on July 16, 1923 in Chicago |
| 7 | | to Roy and Mabel (nee Meyer) Veatch; he graduated from Oak Park |
| 8 | | and River Forest High School in 1941 and married Margery Ann |
| 9 | | Jones in 1945; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Roger Veatch entered the United States Army in |
| 11 | | 1945 and worked on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, New |
| 12 | | Mexico; after World War II, he finished his master's degree in |
| 13 | | biochemistry at the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked |
| 14 | | at the Hines Veterans Administration Medical Center in nuclear |
| 15 | | medicine for 30 years; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Roger Veatch was active at First United Church of |
| 17 | | Oak Park and in the Community Renewal Chorus; he delivered |
| 18 | | Meals on Wheels to seniors in the community into his 70s; in |
| 19 | | 1998, he and his wife retired to North Carolina, where they |
| 20 | | were active members of Congregational United Church of Christ |
| 21 | | in Greensboro; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Roger Veatch was preceded in death by his |
| 2 | | daughter-in-law, Alanna Connors; his brother, David; and his |
| 3 | | brother-in-law, Edwin Bast; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Roger Veatch is survived by his wife of 69 years, |
| 5 | | Margery; his sister-in-law, Mariam Veatch; his sister, Anita |
| 6 | | Bast; his children, Kathryn (William) Ksander, Elizabeth |
| 7 | | Hopkins, Margaret Veatch, and Phillip Veatch; his 4 |
| 8 | | grandchildren, Wendy Smith, Peter Ksander (Miranda Hardy), |
| 9 | | David Ksander (Natalie Ruttan-Stack), and Roy Veatch; and one |
| 10 | | great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
| 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 13 | | Roger L. Veatch, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 15 | | further
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 17 | | presented to the family of Roger Veatch as an expression of our |
| 18 | | deepest sympathy.
