SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Robert T. Fleming of Normal, who passed 
4away on May 16, 2014; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was born in Normal on June 19, 1923 
6to Birney and Carrie (nee Brown) Fleming; he attended Illinois 
7Wesleyan University (IWU) where he was class president, 
8University "W" Club president, University Council president, 
9Sigma Chi Fraternity president, and varsity baseball captain 
10for 2 years; he earned his Juris Doctor from Northwestern 
11University  in 1949 and married Myra "Mikey" King on November 1, 
121952 at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming returned to Bloomington-Normal and 
14carried on the 3rd generation of practicing law; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was an active member of the 
16community, both professionally and personally, holding 
17presidential roles with the IWU Alumni Association, the Board 
18of Trustees for Second Presbyterian Church, the Bloomington 
19Country Club, the McLean County Bar Association, the Commerce 
20Bank Board of Directors, and many other organizations, clubs, 
21and affiliations; he also served as legal counsel to McLean 
22County Unit District No. 5 for more than 40 years; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming was preceded in death by his wife, 
2Myra; his parents; and a brother, John Fleming; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Robert Fleming is survived by 2 daughters, 
4Elizabeth "Libby" (Mark) McIntyre and Nancy (Stephen) Snyder; 2 
5sons, Robert T. (Cathy) Fleming Jr. and Steven K. (Jodi) 
6Fleming; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, 
7Joan (Vic) Winter; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
10Robert T. Fleming, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
12further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to the family of Robert Fleming as an expression of 
15our deepest sympathy.
