| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Anna Hayden Townsend of Chicago; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Anna Townsend was born in Cythianna, Kentucky on |
| 5 | | February 20, 1923 to Ed and Katie Hayden; she graduated from |
| 6 | | Western High School in Paris in 1941 and attended Kentucky |
| 7 | | State College before joining the Women's Army Corp in 1943; she |
| 8 | | married Frank Townsend in 1946 and they had 3 children, |
| 9 | | Patricia, Cleveland, and Lavelle; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Anna Townsend was a licensed cosmetologist; she |
| 11 | | retired in 1993 from the Chicago Police Department after 31 |
| 12 | | years of service as a data entry specialist; she worked with |
| 13 | | co-workers to start the AFSCME union local for civilians at the |
| 14 | | Chicago Police Department central headquarters; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Anna Townsend believed in getting involved in her |
| 16 | | community and local politics; she joined the Young Democrats in |
| 17 | | the early 1960s; she served as a board member of the Henry |
| 18 | | Booth House, as a Brownie and Intermediate Girl Scout troop |
| 19 | | leader and Boy Scout den mother, and she actively participated |
| 20 | | in the Parent-Teacher Associations in the schools that her |
| 21 | | children attended; she volunteered with the March of Dimes, the |
| 22 | | Cancer Society, the United Negro College Fund, the Urban |
