| 2 | | WHEREAS, A new report by the World Health Organization |
| 3 | | reveals that antibiotic resistance is a serious threat and is |
| 4 | | no longer a prediction for the future, it is happening right |
| 5 | | now in every region of the world and has the potential to |
| 6 | | affect anyone, of any age, in any country; antibiotic |
| 7 | | resistance - when bacteria change so antibiotics no longer work |
| 8 | | in people who need them to treat infections - is now a major |
| 9 | | threat to public health; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Urgent, coordinated action is needed or the world |
| 11 | | is headed for a post-antibiotic era, in which common infections |
| 12 | | and minor injuries which have been treatable for decades can |
| 13 | | once again kill; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Effective antibiotics have allowed people to live |
| 15 | | longer, live healthier, and benefit from modern medicine; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Policymakers can help address the issue of |
| 17 | | antibiotic resistance by:
strengthening resistance tracking |
| 18 | | and laboratory capacity,
regulating and promoting appropriate |
| 19 | | use of medicines,
fostering innovation and research and |
| 20 | | development of new tools, and
promoting cooperation and |
| 21 | | information sharing among all stakeholders;
and
