SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Hattie Lee Jackson, who passed away on March 5, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Jackson was born on August 21, 1924 in Friars Point, Mississippi; her parents were Oliver Johnson, Sr. and Aggie Lee Greer Johnson; she married Deacon Junius Jackson on November 8, 1941; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Jackson began her walk with God at an early age when she and her siblings united with St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E.N. Jude in Jonestown, Mississippi; in 1946, she and her husband moved to East Saint Louis and united with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church on Highland Place under the pastorate of the late Dr. R.L. White; she was also an integral member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she served in the Deaconess, Mother, and Kitchen ministries; and

WHEREAS, In 1964, Hattie Jackson and her husband opened Jackson's Laundromat on Missouri Avenue in East Saint Louis; she was also employed at the Obear-Nester Glass Factory for over 30 years until her retirement in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Jackson was preceded in death by her parents; her 8 siblings; and her brother-in-law, Calvin; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Jackson is survived by her son, Dennis Jackson (Aundrea); her grandchildren, Janae, Dennis II, and Payton; her caregiver, Katina Scott; her brother, Robert Johnson; her sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson; her first cousin, Nettie Greer; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Hattie Lee Jackson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hattie Jackson as an expression of our sympathy.
