| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Hattie Lee Jackson, who passed away on |
| 4 | | March 5, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Hattie Jackson was born on August 21, 1924 in |
| 6 | | Friars Point, Mississippi; her parents were Oliver Johnson, Sr. |
| 7 | | and Aggie Lee Greer Johnson; she married Deacon Junius Jackson |
| 8 | | on November 8, 1941; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Hattie Jackson began her walk with God at an early |
| 10 | | age when she and her siblings united with St. Luke Missionary |
| 11 | | Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E.N. Jude |
| 12 | | in Jonestown, Mississippi; in 1946, she and her husband moved |
| 13 | | to East Saint Louis and united with Mt. Sinai Missionary |
| 14 | | Baptist Church on Highland Place under the pastorate of the |
| 15 | | late Dr. R.L. White; she was also an integral member of Mt. |
| 16 | | Sinai Baptist Church, where she served in the Deaconess, |
| 17 | | Mother, and Kitchen ministries; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1964, Hattie Jackson and her husband opened |
| 19 | | Jackson's Laundromat on Missouri Avenue in East Saint Louis; |
| 20 | | she was also employed at the Obear-Nester Glass Factory for |
| 21 | | over 30 years until her retirement in 1981; and
