| 2 | | WHEREAS, Th members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William John Shadid of Peoria, who passed |
| 4 | | away on January 31, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, William Shadid was born on October 5, 1926 in |
| 6 | | Clinton, Iowa to Phillip A. and Edna (nee Massad) Shadid; he |
| 7 | | graduated from Manual Training High School in 1944 and served |
| 8 | | in the United States Army at Fort Sheridan from 1945 to 1946; |
| 9 | | he married Nancy A. DeBord on July 27, 1958 at All Saints Greek |
| 10 | | Orthodox Church in Peoria; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, William Shadid was in business with his brothers |
| 12 | | at the White Front Tavern in South Rome from 1950-1952, the |
| 13 | | Corner Tap from 1954 to 1957, and the Main St. Tap/Club Caravan |
| 14 | | and Club Sahara from 1958 to 1970; he began working for |
| 15 | | Caterpillar in the early 70s and retired from the Powder |
| 16 | | Metallurgy Division in 1991 after 27 years; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, William Shadid was a member and active parishioner |
| 18 | | at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church; he was a life member of |
| 19 | | the American Legion Peoria Post 2 since 1946 and has been Poppy |
| 20 | | Chairman the past 15 years; he served as a Webelos leader, an |
| 21 | | Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 44 at Glen Oak |
| 22 | | Christian Church, and as committee member at Troop 140 at |
|

| 1 | | Forrest Hills Methodist Church; he received the District Award |
| 2 | | of Merit and Silver Beaver from W.D. Boyce Council Boy Scouts |
| 3 | | of America; he volunteered at OSF St. Francis Hospital from |
| 4 | | 1992 to 1999 and helped as a can shaker for the St. Jude |
| 5 | | Tri-County Run; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, William Shadid was preceded in death by Sitto |
| 7 | | Shadid; his parents; his sister, Louise; his brother, Mitchell |
| 8 | | Shadid; his sister-in-law, Delores Shadid; his brother-in-law, |
| 9 | | Philip Abraham; and his nephew, George Shadid; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, William Shadid is survived by his wife, Nancy; his |
| 11 | | children, the Very Reverend Father Don (Janet) Shadid, Bill |
| 12 | | Shadid, Peggy Shadid, and Timothy M. (Juana) Shadid; his |
| 13 | | grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Anthony, and Noelle; his |
| 14 | | siblings, Gladys Abraham, George (Lorraine) Shadid, Pauline |
| 15 | | (John) Unes, Joan (Richard) Pettit, Fred (Jean) Shadid, and |
| 16 | | Jeanette (John) Harris; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, |
| 17 | | be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | William John Shadid, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
