SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Doris Louise Jones; and

WHEREAS, Doris Jones was born on November 10, 1936 in Benton, Mississippi to Willie Hendrix and Bettie Brooks; she graduated from Linwood High School in Yazoo County, Mississippi; as a young adult she loved to sing as a member of the Greengrove Singers, and along with family and friends, the group toured the south and achieved local celebrity status in their home state of Mississippi; she married Calvin Jones in 1956; and

WHEREAS, Doris Jones worked as a Licensed Practitioner Nurse in the 1970's and managed properties and tenant affairs for the real estate property her husband purchased; and

WHEREAS, Doris Jones's greatest passion was that of mother and homemaker; she became the "neighborhood mother" and often provided transportation to activities for the community's young people and often supplied employment to the youth in the neighborhood; she was active on the Missionary Board at the Victory Apostolic Faith Church, where she would clean members homes who needed help; she also enjoyed singing with a local gospel group which served the sick and shut-in within the senior citizen homes and centers in her community; and

WHEREAS, Doris Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; her parents; her sisters, Emma Williams, Eamestine Hart, Florence Brown, and Magnolia Bell; and her brother, James Bell; and

WHEREAS, Doris Jones is survived by her children, Peggie (David Franklin), Eamise, Hilda, Carolyn (Leonard Allain), Calvin B. Jr., Darron (Willnetta), Richard (Noelle), Eric (Carlisa), Carranza, and Marvill; her siblings, Earlene Bell, Gloria Bell, Henry Bell, Jessie Bell, Roosevelt Bell, Thelma (Johnny-B) Bunch, Albertine Hendrix, Barbara A. Hendrix, Clarence C. Hendrix, Cleotha (Eugenia) Hendrix, Earl J. (Estelle) Hendrix, Gloria E. Hendrix, Lloyd M. Hendrix, Porter (Pearl) Hendrix, Travis T. Hendrix, Willie Jr. (Lydia) Hendrix, Dorothy Faye (James) Morris, Sandra (Curtis) Pepper, and Alma (Gary) Spivey; and a host of beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Doris Louise Jones, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doris Jones as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
