SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Henry Bernal Saenz of Alton, who passed away on September 30, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Henry Saenz was born on July 7, 1924 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Marcos and Alice (nee Bernal) Saenz; he served in the United States Army Air Corps as a radio operator from 1943 to 1945; he married Jo Alice Barnerd on July 11, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Henry Saenz ran the family owned Barleff's Menswear in Alton from December 1946 until January 2012; and

WHEREAS, Henry Saenz was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1308, the American Legion, the Alton Eagles Lodge Foe No.254, and the Alton Knights of Columbus #460; he was charter member of the Alton Exchange, where he served as former District President and former National President; he was also a member of the North Alton Godfrey Business Council, the Riverbend Growth Association, the Alton Wood River Sportsman's Club, the Junior Achievement, and was instrumental in the incorporation of Godfrey Township; and

WHEREAS, Henry Saenz was an avid golfer and enjoyed "hitting the links"; and

WHEREAS, Henry Saenz was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; his parents; his son, Brian Henry Saenz; and his sister, Alice Mae Rodriquez; and

WHEREAS, Henry Saenz is survived by his daughter, Diane Saenz; his sons, Marc B. Saenz and James E. (Melissa) Saenz; his grandchildren, Regan (Cindy) Jones, Ian (fiancee Jeanne) Jones, Jennifer (Andy) Dykeman, Stephanie (Steve) Bauer, Rebecca (Mike) Elliott, Brian (Kristen) Saenz, Rachel (Brandon) Waters, Jessica (Ike) Ruedin, Matthew Saenz, and Megan Saenz; his great-grandchildren, Kegan, Lukas, and Quinn Jones, Tanner Schaefer, Liam and Adaela Jones, Samantha and Sarah Bauer, Elizabeth Foster, Samantha Elliott, Dillon and Henry Ruedin, Madeline and Catherine Saenz, and Eli and Simon Waters; his sister, Ernestine Chavarria; and his brothers, Adolpho, Marcos, Daniel, Samuel, William, and Carl Saenz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Henry Bernal Saenz, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Henry Saenz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
