| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr., who passed |
| 4 | | away on September 14, 2013; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was born on March 17, 1921 in |
| 6 | | Pitcairn, Pennsylvania; he completed boot camp at the Great |
| 7 | | Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago and served as a |
| 8 | | Gunner's Mate during World War II in the South Pacific Theater; |
| 9 | | after the war, he graduated from Indiana State Teachers College |
| 10 | | (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania); he married Alta Mary |
| 11 | | Middlehurst in 1950 and they settled in Waukegan in 1954; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. completed his master's degree |
| 13 | | from Roosevelt University in Chicago and studied at the |
| 14 | | University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and Northern |
| 15 | | Illinois University in DeKalb; he began his teaching career in |
| 16 | | Pennsylvania, eventually teaching at North Chicago Community |
| 17 | | High School from 1954 to 1984, retiring as Chairman of the |
| 18 | | Business Education Department; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was an active member of the |
| 20 | | First United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at |
| 21 | | the Waukegan Public Library; and
