SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Warren R. Watkins, who passed away on September 7, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins was born on December 31, 1944 in Peoria; his parents were Russell and Marian (Richart) Watkins; he was a lifelong resident of Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins graduated from Richwoods Community High School in 1962; he then attended Bradley University, where he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and served as Rush Chairman and Song Chairman; he subsequently graduated from Parsons College; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins served his country as a member of the Illinois Army National Guard and achieved the rank of Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins was the owner and operator of Illinois Valley Glass and Mirror, Inc., a business started by his father in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins was a member of the First Federated Church, the Country Club of Peoria, the IVY Club, the Creve Coeur Club, the Sigma Chi Alumni Association, and the Peoria Housing Authority Board; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins and his wife enjoyed their second home and friends in the Northwoods of Wisconsin at Presque Isle; he also enjoyed music, the arts, the outdoors, boating, fishing, and hunting; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew; and

WHEREAS, Warren Watkins is survived by his wife, Mary Allen Watkins; his daughter, Melinda; his sister, Cheryl Sullivan; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Warren R. Watkins; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Warren Watkins as an expression of our sympathy.
