| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Judge John W. Day of Wood River, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 10, 2013; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Judge Day was born in Hamburg on January 6, 1919, |
| 6 | | to John Day and Addie (nee Fowler) Day; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Pleasant Hill High School and Culver-Stockton College in |
| 8 | | Canton, Missouri; he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps |
| 9 | | in Jacksonville and joined the United States Marine Corps |
| 10 | | before the start of World War II; he married Wannie L. Bell on |
| 11 | | May 8, 1942, at the United States Marine Corps base in Nilan, |
| 12 | | California; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Judge Day participated in action against the enemy |
| 14 | | during the Battle of Midway, and was involved in the occupation |
| 15 | | and defense of Tinian and the Marianas Island Group; he was |
| 16 | | discharged on September 17, 1945, with the rank of Sergeant; |
| 17 | | and

| 18 | | WHEREAS, Judge Day received his Doctor of Juris Prudence |
| 19 | | from Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri, following |
| 20 | | World War II; he worked for a number of insurance companies in |
| 21 | | the Midwest, had a private practice, and was involved with a |
| 22 | | local law firm; he was appointed an Associate Judge for Madison |
