SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Judge John W. Day of Wood River, who 
4passed away on August 10, 2013; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Judge Day was born in Hamburg on January 6, 1919, 
6to John Day and Addie (nee Fowler) Day; he graduated from 
7Pleasant Hill High School and Culver-Stockton College in 
8Canton, Missouri; he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps 
9in Jacksonville and joined the United States Marine Corps 
10before the start of World War II; he married Wannie L. Bell on 
11May 8, 1942, at the United States Marine Corps base in Nilan, 
12California; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Judge Day participated in action against the enemy 
14during the Battle of Midway, and was involved in the occupation 
15and defense of Tinian and the Marianas Island Group; he was 
16discharged on September 17, 1945, with the rank of Sergeant; 
17and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Judge Day received his Doctor of Juris Prudence 
19from Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri, following 
20World War II; he worked for a number of insurance companies in 
21the Midwest, had a private practice, and was involved with a 
22local law firm; he was appointed an Associate Judge for Madison

1County; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Judge Day was preceded in death by his parents; 
3his daughters, Linda Jane Day and Patricia Day Leady; his 
4sisters, Loretta Day Ritter, Mary Day Roth, and Catherine Day 
5Hagen; and his cousins, Joe Day and Helen Day; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Judge Day is survived by his wife, Wannie; his 
7children, Father John Patrick Day, C.P., W. Larry (Marcie) Day, 
8Linda Lea (Michael) Barrett, and James Fowler (Sally) Day; his 
914 grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; and his 7 nieces;  
10therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
13Judge John W. Day, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
15further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the family of Judge Day as an expression of our 
18deepest sympathy.
