SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of George R. Likes of Woodburn, who passed 
4away on July 15, 2013; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, George Likes was born on January 23, 1930, in 
6Bunker Hill to George R., Sr. and Nellie Velma (nee Spillman) 
7Likes; he was raised by his father and stepmother, Easter (nee 
8Donaldson) Likes; he served his country in the United States 
9Army during the Korean War; he married Bette Viola Davis in 
10March 1954; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, George Likes was retired from Owens-Illinois 
12Glass and the Olin Corporation; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, George Likes was an avid fan of the Saint Louis 
14Cardinals, Blues, and Rams; he enjoyed gardening, working in 
15his yard, and handing down his appreciation for professional 
16wrestling to his grandchildren; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, George Likes was preceded in death by his beloved 
18wife; his parents; his stepmother; his brother and 
19sister-in-law, Frank and Loretta Likes; his sisters and 
20brothers-in-law, Ernest and Betty Giller and Jesse and Louella 
21Arnold; and his stepsister, Velma Thornton; and

1    WHEREAS, George Likes is survived by his children, Sherry 
2(Lucky) Bodenbach, George Terry Likes, Rhonda (Bruce) Scott, 
3Tim (Patrice) Likes, Patricia (LaMonte) Pierce, and Kristi 
4Likes; his grandchildren, Tim "TG" Likes (fiance Christen 
5Skelly), Maggie Scott, Mollie (Jeff) Odgen, Makenzie Scott, 
6Jeana Pierce, and Jordan Bodenbach; his great-granddaughter, 
7Kylee Viola Ogden; his sister-in-law, Josephine Lockard; his 
8brothers, Herb (Helen) Davis and Gene (Mary) Davis; and his 
9many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
12George R. Likes, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
14further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the family of George Likes as an expression of our 
17deepest sympathy.
