| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Edmund Joseph Mallow Sr. of Peoria, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 4, 2013; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. was born on August 10, 1928, in |
| 6 | | Peoria; his parents were John J. and Cecelia S. Bojalad Mallow; |
| 7 | | he married Harriet A. Alwan on November 17, 1951, in Peoria; |
| 8 | | and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. began his working life in the |
| 10 | | 3rd grade in his father's shoe shop, Mallow Shoe Repair; by the |
| 11 | | time he graduated from Spalding Institute in 1947, he was a |
| 12 | | Master Craftsman; due to his father's illness, he was unable to |
| 13 | | accept a college scholarship he had and instead stayed home, |
| 14 | | where he successfully ran the family shoe repair business for |
| 15 | | the next 14 years; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In the early 1960s, Edmund Mallow Sr. decided to |
| 17 | | exit the shoe business and began searching for a new career; he |
| 18 | | was subsequently hired by IDS, given one half day of training, |
| 19 | | and sent to work as a financial planner; after two years, he |
| 20 | | became a district manager; in 1969, he left management and |
| 21 | | began building his business using a mailing program; for 10 |
| 22 | | years, he sent out 200 mailers every week, which eventually |

| 1 | | grew to 600 clients; through his work, he amassed an impressive |
| 2 | | collection of awards by helping people protect their families, |
| 3 | | buy homes and businesses, educate their children, retire |
| 4 | | comfortably, and make sure their money would outlive them; he |
| 5 | | retired in 2002, after 40 years of dedicated service; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. enjoyed cooking family dinners, |
| 7 | | fishing with his kids, and playing friendly games of poker; |
| 8 | | during his retirement years, he enjoyed making jewelry, which |
| 9 | | was affectionately known as "Grandpa or Jido jewelry"; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. was preceded in death by his |
| 11 | | wife of 60 years, Harriet; his parents; and his brother, |
| 12 | | Raymond; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. is survived by his children, |
| 14 | | Barbara (John) Woerly, Edmund Jr. (Cathy) Mallow, Carolyn |
| 15 | | (Richard) Kauffman, Sharon (Jim) Karosky, Elaine (David) Owen, |
| 16 | | Dianna (Chris) Russick, and Rick (Deanna) Mallow; his 13 |
| 17 | | grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; and his sister, |
| 18 | | Isabelle Couri; therefore, be it
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
| 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 21 | | his family and friends, the passing of Edmund Joseph Mallow |
| 22 | | Sr.; and be it further
