| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Lola Hickey (nee Heller) of Rochester, |
| 4 | | who passed away on April 21, 2013; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was born on October 23, 1916, in |
| 6 | | Elmira, New York, to Milton and Grace Weiss Heller; she was |
| 7 | | president of the student council during high school and captain |
| 8 | | of her high school's girls basketball team; she married |
| 9 | | Herschel Hickey on December 24, 1946, in Springfield; she and |
| 10 | | Herschel raised their family in Jacksonville; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was a registered nurse and retired as |
| 12 | | the director of nursing at the Scott County Nursing Home; after |
| 13 | | retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer at Koke Mill Medical |
| 14 | | Center, Memorial Hospital, and Lewis Memorial Christian Home; |
| 15 | | in 2002, she was honored as YWCA "Woman of Excellence"; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Lola Hickey was an active member of Central |
| 17 | | Christian Church in Jacksonville and the Westside Christian |
| 18 | | Church in Springfield; affectionately known as "Grandma YoYo", |
| 19 | | she enjoyed following her grandchildren play sports, watching |
| 20 | | the Fighting Illini basketball team and the St. Louis |
| 21 | | Cardinals, playing games with her family and friends, and was a |
| 22 | | fierce card, domino, and Scrabble competitor; she also enjoyed |
