| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Robert A. Wetzel of Edwardsville, who |
| 4 | | passed away on January 21, 2013; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was born on August 26, 1937, in |
| 6 | | Highland to Arthur L. and Violet V. (Scheibe) Wetzel; he |
| 7 | | married Carol Kemmerer on August 20, 1960, at Grace Methodist |
| 8 | | Church in Waterloo, Iowa; he graduated from Edwardsville High |
| 9 | | School in 1955, Monmouth College in 1959, and the University of |
| 10 | | Wisconsin School of Banking in 1972; he was a staff sergeant in |
| 11 | | the Illinois National Guard; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel worked at TheBANK of Edwardsville |
| 13 | | and moved his way up throughout the years; he started in 1960 |
| 14 | | as a assistant cashier; he became vice-president and cashier in |
| 15 | | 1973, senior vice-president and cashier in 1976, and president |
| 16 | | in 1981, serving in that position for 22 years before retiring |
| 17 | | in August of 2004; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel always took an active role in the |
| 19 | | betterment of his community; he served on the board of the ABA |
| 20 | | Federal Bankpac; he was active with Backstoppers-The Policeman |
| 21 | | and Fireman Fund of Saint Louis, the Civic Entrepreneurs |
| 22 | | Organization, the Deaconess Foundation board of directors, the |
|

| 1 | | Edwardsville Central Business District Development and |
| 2 | | Improvement Committee, and the Edwardsville Community School |
| 3 | | District #7, treasurer; he served as past president of |
| 4 | | Edwardsville Jaycees, past president of Edwardsville/Glen |
| 5 | | Carbon United way, director of the Illinois Department of |
| 6 | | Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and on the Madison County |
| 7 | | Bankers Federation Executive Committee, the Saint Louis Sports |
| 8 | | Commission, the State Treasurer's Banking Advisory Committee, |
| 9 | | and on the Board Trails West Council of the Boy Scouts of |
| 10 | | America; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He was currently serving on the board of directors |
| 12 | | of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois where he was |
| 13 | | the past president, the board of directors of Lewis & Clark |
| 14 | | Community College, and as chairman of the Advisory Committee of |
| 15 | | Madison County Metrolink Feasibility Study; he was a member of |
| 16 | | the board of directors of Madison Mutual Insurance Company, the |
| 17 | | Regional Commerce & Growth Association, The Edwardsville |
| 18 | | Rotary Club, SIU-E Foundation, SIU-E School of Business |
| 19 | | Advisory Board, The Alliance of Edwardsville & Glen Carbon |
| 20 | | Executive Council, TheBANK of Edwardsville board of directors, |
| 21 | | and the University Park SIU-E board of directors; and |
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel has received numerous awards |
| 23 | | throughout the years including, the 100 Black Men of Alton |
| 24 | | Award for Outstanding Contributions and Support of Education, |
|

| 1 | | the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Albert D. |
| 2 | | Cassens Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Anderson |
| 3 | | Hospital 7th Annual Founders Award, the Distinguished Eagle |
| 4 | | Scout Award, Edwardsville Rotary's International Service Above |
| 5 | | Self Award, the Leadership Council's 16th Annual Salute to |
| 6 | | Southwestern IL Award for Outstanding Leadership, the Monmouth |
| 7 | | College Distinguished Alumnus Award, the SIU-E Distinguished |
| 8 | | Service Award, the SIU-E Kimmel Award for Outstanding Community |
| 9 | | Service, and the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Lifetime Achievement |
| 10 | | award; he was a member of Eden United Church of Christ in |
| 11 | | Edwardsville; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was preceded in death by his parents |
| 13 | | and his brother, Ronald Wetzel; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel is survived by his wife, Carol; his |
| 15 | | daughter, Andrea (Russell) Wetzel-Darbon; his son Scott |
| 16 | | (Kristi) Wetzel; his grandchildren, Brawley (Lee) Darbon, |
| 17 | | Madison Olivia Darbon, Corbin Reid Wetzel, and Reagan Kate |
| 18 | | Wetzel; his brothers, Tom (Alice) Wetzel, Carl (Donna) Wetzel, |
| 19 | | and David (Jessica) Wetzel; and many nieces, nephews, and dear |
| 20 | | friends; therefore, be it

| 21 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
| 22 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
