| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Stephen A. Paynic, who passed away on |
| 4 | | January 16, 2013; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Paynic was born on December 19, 1923, in |
| 6 | | Granite City; his parents were Anthony and Frances (Kezele) |
| 7 | | Paynic Sr.; he married S. Jean Lightbody on February 9, 1952, |
| 8 | | at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Wood River; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Paynic served his country as a member of |
| 10 | | the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a nose |
| 11 | | gunner on a B-24 bomber; he flew 29 combat missions and was a |
| 12 | | recipient of the Air Medal with 2 clusters; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Paynic served as a junior high teacher in |
| 14 | | Roxana Schools; he later served as principal at Rosewood |
| 15 | | Elementary School before his eventual retirement in 1984; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Paynic was a member of the Knights of |
| 17 | | Columbus and the Wood River VFW #2859; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Stephen Paynic was preceded in death by his |
| 19 | | parents; his brothers, Edward Paynic, Fr. Richard Paynic, and |
| 20 | | Anthony Paynic; and his sisters, Helen Eich, Julia Paynic, and |
