SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, On March 10, 2014 the Du Quoin City Council 
3unanimously approved a resolution seeking to name the Du Quoin 
4overpass after former Mayor, the late John Rednour, Sr.; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, For nearly 75 years the citizens of Du Quoin heard 
6discussions concerning the creation of an overpass within their 
7town; trains coming through would cut the town in half, 
8prohibiting vehicles, including emergency responders, from 
9getting to those in need, creating literal life-and-death 
10situations; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, John Rednour, Sr. served as the Mayor of Du Quoin 
12for for 24 years from 1989 to 2013 and was instrumental in 
13finally securing funding for
the construction of the overpass

14when others had been unable to do so; and
  
 

  
15    WHEREAS, John Rednour, Sr. challenged others "to become 
16part of the solution" and let his actions speak for themselves; 
17therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 
20CONCURRING HEREIN, That the Illinois Department of 
21Transportation
is requested to erect at suitable locations,

1consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate 
2plaques or signs
giving notice of the name
"John Rednour, Sr. 
3Overpass"; and be it further
  
 
4    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be

5presented to Du Quoin Mayor Rex Duncan and the Secretary of the 
6Illinois Department of Transportation.
