| 1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Emergency Telephone System Act is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 15.8 as follows: |
| 6 | | (50 ILCS 750/15.8 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 15.8. 9-1-1 dialing from a business. |
| 8 | | (a) Any entity that installs or operates a private business |
| 9 | | switch service and provides telecommunications facilities or |
| 10 | | services to businesses shall ensure that all systems installed |
| 11 | | on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the |
| 12 | | 98th General Assembly are connected to the public switched |
| 13 | | network in a manner such that when a user dials "9-1-1", the |
| 14 | | emergency call connects to the 9-1-1 system without first |
| 15 | | dialing any number or set of numbers. |
| 16 | | (b) The requirements of this Section do not apply to: |
| 17 | | (1) any entity certified by the Illinois Commerce |
| 18 | | Commission to operate a Private Emergency Answering Point |
| 19 | | as defined in 83 Ill. Adm. Code 726.105; or |
| 20 | | (2) correctional institutions and facilities as |
| 21 | | defined in subsection (d) of Section 3-1-2 of the Unified |
| 22 | | Code of Corrections. |
| 23 | | (c) An entity that violates this Section is guilty of a |
