| 1 | | AN ACT concerning public health.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Public |
| 5 | | Self-Care of Diabetes Act.
|
| 6 | | Section 5. Purpose. The General Assembly finds that insulin |
| 7 | | injection is necessary for diabetics and their continued health |
| 8 | | and longevity. The General Assembly finds that forcing |
| 9 | | diabetics to administer their personal insulin injections out |
| 10 | | of public view is unnecessarily restrictive.

| 11 | | Section 10. Public self-care of diabetes location. A person |
| 12 | | with diabetes, or parent or legal guardian of a person with |
| 13 | | diabetes, may self-administer insulin or administer insulin |
| 14 | | for his or her child in any location, public or private, where |
| 15 | | the person, or the person's parent or legal guardian, is |
| 16 | | authorized to be, irrespective of whether the injection site is |
| 17 | | uncovered during or incidental to the administration of |
| 18 | | insulin.

| 19 | | Section 15. Illegal drugs. Nothing in this Act shall be |
| 20 | | construed to authorize the use of any illegal drug.
