HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague, 
4State Representative Naomi Jakobsson, on her 12 years as a 
5member of the Illinois General Assembly and thank her for her 
6dedicated service to her State and her community; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson is married to Eric Jakobsson and 
8together they raised 8 children and have 11 grandchildren; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Prior to her election as State Representative of 
10the 103rd District in 2002, Rep. Jakobsson served as the 
11Champaign County Recorder of Deeds for 12 years; she also 
12served as interim director of a domestic violence shelter and 
13as the Executive Director of the University YWCA; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has worked to make sure that all 
15children have loving and caring homes; she has been active in 
16adoptive services and parent support groups, and she and her 
17husband have adopted 6 of their 8 children; in the Illinois 
18House of Representatives, she served as Vice-Chair of the 
19Adoption Reform Committee; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has been a tireless advocate for 
21the University of Illinois and Parkland College and their

1students, faculty, and employees; she served as Chair of the 
2House Higher Education Committee; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has been a leader in the fight for 
4marriage equality in Illinois; thanks to her courage and 
5dedication to marriage equality, the Chicago House and Social 
6Service Agency honored Rep. Jakobsson with its 2014 Spirit 
7Award; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson is dedicated to the preservation 
9and protection of our environment; she has worked to 
10significantly reduce mercury emissions, supported the addition 
11of more recycling bins in Illinois schools and offices, and  
12worked diligently to protect our natural resources like the 
13Mahomet aquifer; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson has won multiple blue ribbons for 
15her scrumptious baked goods; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Rep. Jakobsson is a leader at McKinley Church, 
17where she and her husband Eric attend; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, All who have served with Rep. Jakobsson will miss 
19her genuine dedication to everything she does, to her 
20community, and to the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
3we honor and thank State Representative Naomi Jakobsson for her 
4years of dedicated service; and be it further
  
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to Rep. Jakobsson as an expression of our respect and 
7esteem, and with our best wishes.
