HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Ewa and Stanley Chwala on over 30 years of being in the restaurant business; and

WHEREAS, Ewa and Stanley Chwala arrived in the United States in Chicago on December 30, 1982; they found work at "Western Poultry" and began attending English lessons every night; they worked 6 days-a-week from 6am to 9pm, Ewa as the saleswoman and Stanley as the butcher; and

WHEREAS, In 1984, Ewa and Stanley Chwala opened the "Staropolska Restaurant" on Belmont Avenue to serve up to 25 patrons; in 1986, they expanded the restaurant to accommodate 100 patrons, and, a year later, it was expanded again for 150; also in 1986, Staropolska Restaurant LTD. was established and exits to this day; and

WHEREAS, In 1989, Ewa and Stanley Chwala purchased the "Jolly Club" banquet facility on Irving Park Road for up to 800 guests; 2 years later, one of the banquet halls was remodeled into a 165-person restaurant and renamed "Jolly Inn Restaurant & Banquets"; from 1989 to 1993, they operated both restaurants, employing over 100 people; in 1995, they purchased the neighboring lot, expanded the parking, and renovated the entire Jolly Inn location inside and out; since 2005, they have also run the subsidiary business the "Galos Caves" next door to the restaurant; and

WHEREAS, Ewa and Stanley Chwala have never shied away from sharing their success with charities; and

WHEREAS, May of 2014 will mark the 30-year anniversary of Jolly Inn Restaurant & Banquets; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish to recognize Ewa and Stanley Chwala on over 30 years of being in the restaurant business and wish them many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ewa and Stanley Chwala as an expression of our esteem and respect.
