HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor Laura Lake on being 
4selected as Miss Northern Suburbs and recognize her platform on 
5food insecurity; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Laura Lake hopes her platform will bring attention 
7to the fact that one in 6 Americans, and one in 8 people 
8internationally, suffer from malnutrition, and these numbers 
9continue to rise - yet Americans waste over 33,000,000,000 tons 
10of food each year; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, As Miss Northern Suburb, Laura Lake has 
12volunteered for several food banks, served weekly dinners for 
13the hungry, become a member of the Northern Illinois Food Bank 
14Young Professionals Board, created a social media campaign 
15called "Take the Pledge", attended hunger walks, begun creating 
16a food drive event, and worked with the Feeding America 
17corporate office in Chicago; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, As Miss Northern Suburb, Laura Lake has given many 
19appearances that have included supporting veterans, speeches 
20to 200 people, packing meat at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, 
21serving breakfast to Ronald McDonald House guests, and much 
22more; and

1    WHEREAS, Laura Lake first began working to end hunger when 
2she was in junior high school; every Friday night for 2 years 
3she volunteered at a local church dinner for the hungry; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Laura Lake originally hails from Marshfield, 
5Wisconsin; she graduated high school in 2010 and from Winona 
6State University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Public 
7Administration; she relocated to Lombard in 2013 and now 
8attends Northern Illinois University and currently works for 
9the Village of Morton Grove; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we honor Laura Lake on being selected as Miss Northern Suburbs 
13and recognize her platform on food insecurity; and be it 
14further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Laura Lake as an expression of our esteem and 
17respect.
