HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Progressive 
4Baptist Church in Aurora on the occasion of the 50th 
5anniversary of its founding; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Progressive Baptist Church was organized in 1963 
7and held its first service in the Little Theatre of East Aurora 
8High School on December 4th of that year; under the tutelage of 
9the Reverend Robert Wesby, the church began with a congregation 
10of 11 people; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Progressive Baptist Church moved to a location on 
12North Lincoln Avenue in September 1966, where it remained for 
1342 years; ground was broken in 2006 for a new location on 
14Barnes Road, which  opened in 2008; and

  
 
15    WHEREAS, The Reverend Roy R. Brown took over as Senior 
16Pastor  in September 1988, and, under his leadership, 
17Progressive Baptist Church saw its average attendance grow to  
18275 people, with a membership of over 500; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Upon Reverend Brown's retirement in December of 
202012, the Reverend Kevin James Bedford was installed as Senior 
21Pastor on August 25, 2013; and

1    WHEREAS, A celebration banquet will be held on December 7, 
22013 at Gaslite Manor in Aurora; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate Progressive Baptist Church on its 50th 
6anniversary, and wish it many more successful years; and be it 
7further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Progressive Baptist Church as an expression of our 
10esteem and respect.
