HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to recognize the Hands of Peace 
4program as it celebrates its 10th anniversary; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Hands of Peace is a unique interfaith program that 
6brings together Israeli, Palestinian, and American teens for 
7dialogue and friendship; it was created in 2002 by Gretchen 
8Grad of Glenview in order to help create peace-building leaders 
9of the future; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, More than 300 teens from around the world have 
11participated in Hands of Peace, including more than 150 
12Illinois teens, and more than 200 Illinois families have hosted 
13participants; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Hands of Peace founding sponsor, Glenview 
15Community Church, current sponsors the Jewish 
16Reconstructionist Congregation of Evanston, the Islamic 
17Foundation North of Libertyville, and numerous other Illinois 
18civic organizations and religious institutions, have supported 
19Hands of Peace; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Hands of Peace helps build teens' leadership and 
21conflict-resolution skills, increases their critical thinking

1skills and decreases their stereotyping, fear and distrust, 
2while empowering teens to create positive changes in their own 
3communities; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Hands of Peace is celebrating its 10th anniversary 
5year in 2013; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we are pleased to recognize the Hands of Peace program as it 
9celebrates its 10th anniversary; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to the Hands of Peace program as an expression of our 
12esteem and respect.
