HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to recognize the 50th anniversary 
4of Armitage Baptist Church in Chicago; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Armitage Baptist Church was founded in 1963; it 
6reached a peak membership of about 100 during these early 
7years; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Armitage Baptist Church was originally located in 
9Humboldt Park; by 1978 growth dictated a move to North Keeler; 
10and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, In October of 1982, with congregation numbers now 
12at 200, Armitage Baptist Church moved to a 54,000 square foot 
13building that was the former Logan Square Masonic Temple; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The senior pastor of Armitage Baptist Church is 
15Charles Lyons, who became the church's first full-time pastor 
16in 1974; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Armitage Baptist Church's desire is to multiply by 
18starting multi-ethnic congregations throughout Chicago and the 
19world; its goal is to start 50 new congregations in the Chicago 
20area by the year 2025; and

1    WHEREAS, Armitage Baptist Church will be celebrating its 
250th anniversary on Memorial Day weekend May 25-27, 2013; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we recognize the 50th anniversary of Armitage Baptist Church; 
7and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Armitage Baptist Church as an expression of our 
10esteem and respect.
