| 2 | | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5824 on page 5, by |
| 3 | | replacing lines 7 through 18 with the following: |
| 4 | | "(k) Of the 23rd circuit's associate judgeships from DeKalb |
| 5 | | County, the first associate judgeship that is or becomes vacant |
| 6 | | on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the |
| 7 | | 98th General Assembly shall become a resident judgeship from |
| 8 | | DeKalb County in the 23rd circuit. The additional resident |
| 9 | | judgeship shall be filled by election beginning at the 2016 |
| 10 | | general election. The Supreme Court may fill the judgeship by |
| 11 | | appointment prior to the 2016 general election. As used in this |
| 12 | | subsection, a vacancy does not include the
expiration of a term |
| 13 | | of a resident judge who seeks
retention in that office at the |
