Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Requires railroad switching yards to be illuminated from sunset to sunrise at a level prescribed by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. Effective January 1, 2014.

| 1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 18c-7401.2 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/18c-7401.2 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 18c-7401.2. Adequate illumination levels required in |
| 8 | | railroad switching yards. All railroad switching yards where |
| 9 | | trains are made up or broken down by any form of switching |
| 10 | | shall have a sufficient level of illumination for the period |
| 11 | | between sunset and sunrise. The illumination level must, at a |
| 12 | | minimum, meet or exceed national standards for rail yards |
| 13 | | according to the Illuminating Engineering Society of North |
| 14 | | America.

| 15 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January |
| 16 | | 1, 2014.
