Amends the Township Code. Provides that, during his or her term of office, a General Assembly member is not eligible to serve as a township officer. Specifies that this restriction applies to the election and appointment of township officers on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act.

| 1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 | | 55-5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (60 ILCS 1/55-5)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 55-5. Legal voter, and resident, and not a General |
| 8 | | Assembly member. |
| 9 | | (a) No person is eligible to hold any
office unless he or |
| 10 | | she is a legal voter and has been a resident of the
township |
| 11 | | for one year.
|
| 12 | | (b) During his or her term of office, a General Assembly |
| 13 | | member is not eligible to serve as a township officer. The |
| 14 | | restriction in this subsection (b) applies to the election and |
| 15 | | appointment of township officers on and after the effective |
| 16 | | date of this amendatory Act of the 98th General Assembly. |
