SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Anne Bannor of Evanston, who passed away on June 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born Anne Elizabeth Wedgworth in Chicago; she was the youngest of 2 children; her father had taught English in the Philippines and her mother had moved to Chicago from Georgia; and

WHEREAS, After skipping several grades, she entered Amundsen High School at age 12; upon graduation, she took classes at Wright Junior College and then at Northwestern University; it was during her studies that she met Norman Bannor through a friend; the couple married in November 1943; they were fortunate to have 5 children; and

WHEREAS, When their youngest child was about 4, Anne Bannor went back to school and received a bachelor's degree from Chicago Teachers College (now Northeastern Illinois University) in the 1960s; she went on to get her master's degree as well; for nearly 3 decades, she taught at several Chicago public schools, including Brentano and Budlong; she later became associate principal at Harlan High School on the South Side and principal at Bridge Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, She was a world traveler and visited every continent in the world, except for Antarctica; her adventures included animal encounters in the Great Smoky Mountains and in India; and

WHEREAS, She was married 58 years to the late Norman Lee Bannor, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, She is survived by her children, Lee Bannor, Scott Bannor, Todd Bannor, Marcy Bannor, and Brett Bannor; her brother, William Wedgworth; her 5 grandchildren; and her 2 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Anne Bannor; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Anne Bannor as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
