| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Anne Bannor of Evanston, who passed away |
| 4 | | on June 15, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She was born Anne Elizabeth Wedgworth in Chicago; |
| 6 | | she was the youngest of 2 children; her father had taught |
| 7 | | English in the Philippines and her mother had moved to Chicago |
| 8 | | from Georgia; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After skipping several grades, she entered |
| 10 | | Amundsen High School at age 12; upon graduation, she took |
| 11 | | classes at Wright Junior College and then at Northwestern |
| 12 | | University; it was during her studies that she met Norman |
| 13 | | Bannor through a friend; the couple married in November 1943; |
| 14 | | they were fortunate to have 5 children; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, When their youngest child was about 4, Anne Bannor |
| 16 | | went back to school and received a bachelor's degree from |
| 17 | | Chicago Teachers College (now Northeastern Illinois |
| 18 | | University) in the 1960s; she went on to get her master's |
| 19 | | degree as well; for nearly 3 decades, she taught at several |
| 20 | | Chicago public schools, including Brentano and Budlong; she |
| 21 | | later became associate principal at Harlan High School on the |
| 22 | | South Side and principal at Bridge Elementary School; and
|
