| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Corporal Cesar Velazquez, who passed away |
| 4 | | May 15, 2009; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez served his community as a |
| 6 | | consultant and a teacher prior to becoming a policeman; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez joined the Hainesville Police |
| 8 | | Department in July of 2008 after serving with the Skokie Police |
| 9 | | Department for over 20 years; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez was assigned to the |
| 11 | | Metropolitan Enforcement Group, (NEMEG) undercover narcotics |
| 12 | | unit for two years while serving in the Skokie Police |
| 13 | | Department, as well as serving as a detective, and then as the |
| 14 | | department's first DARE Officer; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez died in the line of duty just |
| 16 | | days before his retirement; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez leaves behind a wife and two |
| 18 | | children; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Velazquez dedicated and gave his life to |
