HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rick Kahen on the 
4occasion of his retirement after many years of dedicated 
5service with the Buffalo Grove Commission for Residents with 
6Disabilities; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Rick Kahen joined the Buffalo Grove Commission for 
8Residents with Disabilities in 1994, 2 years after it was first 
9created in the village; he has served the commission's chairman 
10for the last decade; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, During his tenure, Rick Kahen strongly advocated 
12educating the community on disability issues and implementing 
13changes to make the village more accessible for people with 
14disabilities; under his leadership, the commission worked 
15alongside the park district to increase handicap accessibility 
16of the parks, which included such initiatives as 
17poured-in-place surfacing, ramps, panel games and even swings, 
18and took a proactive approach with handicap accessibility 
19assessment of village shopping centers through a comprehensive 
20report to the village's Building and Zoning Department; the 
21commission also aids local businesses with accessibility 
22issues and distributes routine questionnaires for residents 
23with disabilities every 3 years; and

1    WHEREAS, Rick Kahen serves as a model of hard work, 
2integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
3Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Rick Kahen on the occasion of his retirement 
7and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it 
8further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Rick Kahen as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
