HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to recognize important events in 
4the State of Illinois; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, April 2011 is "Sarcoidosis Awareness Month" 
6world-wide; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a noncontagious, systemic disease 
8that is commonly diagnosed with the detection of inflamed, 
9microscopic growths; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a debilitating and potentially 
11fatal disease which causes massive tissue inflammation and 
12damage to major organs, particularly the lungs;

the disease can 
13also target the heart, eyes, brain, liver, kidneys, and skin 
14and the inflammation may cause seizures, blindness, 
15disfiguring lesions, and heart failure; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis affects people around the world and 
17the origins of the diseases are still unknown; the National 
18Sarcoidosis Society provides support group meetings and 
19telephone support groups to individuals affected by the 
20diseases and their families; and

1    WHEREAS, The National Sarcoidosis Society also supports 
2health care providers' efforts to increase awareness and 
3further research the disease; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we recognize April of 2011 as "Sarcoidosis Awareness Month" in 
7the State of Illinois; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to the National Sarcoidosis Society as a symbol of 
10our respect and esteem.
