SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gerald Francis Fitzgerald of Barrington Hills, Illinois, and Naples, Florida, who passed away on October 30, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Fitzgerald was a graduate of Fenwick High School in Oak Park; after serving as a U.S. Army sergeant in the Combat Engineers in the European theatre during World War II, he completed his college education at Northwestern University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in commerce; and

WHEREAS, In 1961, Gerald Fitzgerald founded the Suburban Bank Group of Palatine, which eventually grew to 13 banks and 31 locations before merging with Bank of Montreal's Harris Bank in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Fitzgerald was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Olivia Trader Fitzgerald; his brothers, John and Alan; and his sister, Jean Fitzgerald Swanson; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Fitzgerald is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marjorie Gosselin Fitzgerald, whom he married in 1949 after meeting at Northwestern; his children, Gerald F. Fitzgerald Jr. (Denise McMahon Fitzgerald), James G. Fitzgerald (Jane Rabyk Fitzgerald), Thomas G. Fitzgerald (Joyce Mancari Fitzgerald), Julie Ann Fitzgerald, and former U.S. Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald (Nina Kerstiens Fitzgerald); and his grandchildren, Andrew (Carolyn Hovde Fitzgerald), Lauren, Timothy, Elyse, Thomas Jr., Celine, Marguerite, Jake, and Shannon; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Gerald Francis Fitzgerald; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gerald Fitzgerald as an expression of our sympathy.
