| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Russell Christian of Grayslake, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 8, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian was born in Waukegan on |
| 6 | | September 5, 1928, to Stanley and Hazel (nee Kapheim) |
| 7 | | Christian; Russell graduated from Waukegan High School in 1946 |
| 8 | | and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the 11th |
| 9 | | Airborne Division; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, In 1965 he married Shirley Oilschlager; Russell |
| 11 | | was an accounting supervisor with the Frank G. Hough |
| 12 | | Co./International Harvester/Dresser Industries in Libertyville |
| 13 | | until his retirement in 1987; in 1989, he was elected to the |
| 14 | | position of Avon Township Supervisor, serving the residents of |
| 15 | | the Round Lake communities, Hainesville, Grayslake, Third |
| 16 | | Lake, and surrounding unincorporated areas in a position he |
| 17 | | served until 2006; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Russell was a Charter Member of the VFW Ron Hill |
| 19 | | Memorial Post 2245; he also served on the Grayslake High School |
| 20 | | Board of Education, was a Grayslake Village Trustee for 12 |
| 21 | | years, was Executive Director of the Grayslake Chamber of |
| 22 | | Commerce, and was a Founding Member and Chairman of the |
|

| 1 | | Grayslake Economic Development Corporation; he was also active |
| 2 | | in the Grayslake Lions Club, the Military Order of the Cooties |
| 3 | | Pup Tent IL081, the American Legion Post 0659, and the St. |
| 4 | | Therese Janssen Foundation Board of Directors and was a Charter |
| 5 | | Member of the Grayslake Kiwanis Club; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Russell was a member of Shepherd of the Lakes |
| 7 | | Lutheran Church; he will be remembered by many in the Round |
| 8 | | Lake and Grayslake areas as "Santa", a role that gave him much |
| 9 | | pleasure; Russell loved life and enjoyed other people to the |
| 10 | | fullest; he was a devoted husband and a loving, proud father, |
| 11 | | grandfather, and great-grandfather; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian was preceded in death by his |
| 13 | | parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Donald and |
| 14 | | Rosella Oilschlager; his brother, Richard Christian; and his |
| 15 | | grandson, Grant Russell Christian; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian is survived by his wife, |
| 17 | | Shirley, whom he married 45 years ago on February 27 in |
| 18 | | Lindenhurst; his children, Karen (Kirk Smith) Christian Smith, |
| 19 | | John (Shelly) Christian, and Patti Gail (Jack Wells) Byers; his |
| 20 | | grandchildren, Lucas and Alec Christian, Benjamin and Molly |
| 21 | | Smith, Michael (Lisa) Lessard, and Joshua (Freddie) Johnson; |
| 22 | | and his two great-grandchildren in Florida; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 3 | | his family and friends, the passing of Russell Christian; and |
| 4 | | be it further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the family of Russell Christian as a symbol of our |
| 7 | | sincere sympathy.
