| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Joseph Paul Maher Jr. of Alton, who |
| 4 | | passed away on October 16, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Alton on April 10, 1927, the son of |
| 6 | | Joseph Paul and Myrtle (Dwiggins) Maher Sr; he married Alice |
| 7 | | Marie Noll on September 11, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church |
| 8 | | in Alton; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He served his country in the Army and Merchant |
| 10 | | Marines from 1944 to 1948, and was a member of St. Mary's |
| 11 | | Catholic Church in Alton, where he served as an usher; he was a |
| 12 | | member of the Alton Knights of Columbus, loved to play cards |
| 13 | | with his family, and was a member of the Alton Eagles 254; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He worked for Amoco Refinery and retired in 1985 |
| 15 | | after 40 years of service, and also served as an alderman for |
| 16 | | the city of Alton for 25 years; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his |
| 18 | | sister and brother-in-law, June and Lyle Ganter; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Maher Jr. is survived by his wife, Alice |
| 20 | | Marie; his five children and their spouses; Linda and John |
