| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal |
| 4 | | Robert John "R.J." Newton of Creve Coeur, who passed away on |
| 5 | | August 23, 2010, while supporting combat operations in Bastion, |
| 6 | | Afghanistan; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton was born on August 21, 1989, |
| 8 | | in Naples, Florida; his parents were Richard B. and Denise R. |
| 9 | | Wainscott Newton; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton enlisted in the United States |
| 11 | | Marine Corps shortly after graduating from East Peoria |
| 12 | | Community High School in 2007; he served with the 3rd |
| 13 | | Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division; he |
| 14 | | was the recipient of numerous medals and decorations for his |
| 15 | | meritorious service, including the Marine Good Conduct Medal, |
| 16 | | the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Afghanistan and Iraq |
| 17 | | Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the |
| 18 | | National Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal ISAF |
| 19 | | Afghanistan, and a posthumous Purple Heart; he was well-known |
| 20 | | among his peers for his great pride in being a United States |
| 21 | | Marine; and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton loved all outdoor activities, |
