SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Carl L. Matthews, of Ottawa, Chicago, and 
4Glencoe, who passed away on June 26, 2010; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on December 21, 1918, the eldest child 
6of Carl and Hessie Matthews; he served his country proudly in 
7the Air Corp in Europe during World War II; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, After his time in World War II, he returned to 
9Ottawa and met Marguerite Hughes, who would be his wife of 61 
10years; they were wed on August 6, 1949, settled in Chicago, and 
11Carl began his career with Mutual Trust Life Insurance, an 
12association which ended upon Carl's retirement 25 years ago; 
13and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Carl and Margy served as Co-Presidents of the 
15Chicago Federation of the Christian Family Movement; they were 
16involved with the Howard Area Community Center; and they were 
17devoted members of the Catholic faith; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy; 
19and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Carl Matthews was the devoted father to Mark

1(Christi), Peggy (George) Kirk, and the late Nancy (Steve) 
2Moore; and he was the proud grandfather to Kathryn, 
3Christopher, Kaitlin, and Michael; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL 
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
6his family and friends, the passing of Carl Matthews; and be it 
7further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to the family of Carl Matthews as a symbol of our 
10sincere sympathy.
