| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Carl L. Matthews, of Ottawa, Chicago, and |
| 4 | | Glencoe, who passed away on June 26, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born on December 21, 1918, the eldest child |
| 6 | | of Carl and Hessie Matthews; he served his country proudly in |
| 7 | | the Air Corp in Europe during World War II; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After his time in World War II, he returned to |
| 9 | | Ottawa and met Marguerite Hughes, who would be his wife of 61 |
| 10 | | years; they were wed on August 6, 1949, settled in Chicago, and |
| 11 | | Carl began his career with Mutual Trust Life Insurance, an |
| 12 | | association which ended upon Carl's retirement 25 years ago; |
| 13 | | and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Carl and Margy served as Co-Presidents of the |
| 15 | | Chicago Federation of the Christian Family Movement; they were |
| 16 | | involved with the Howard Area Community Center; and they were |
| 17 | | devoted members of the Catholic faith; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy; |
| 19 | | and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Carl Matthews was the devoted father to Mark |
