SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Homewood firefighter Brian Colin "Boo" Carey, who was killed on duty while attempting to save a life, on March 30, 2010; and

WHEREAS, During a house fire on March 30, 2010, Brian Carey was injured and later passed away, while trying to rescue an elderly couple trapped in their home; and

WHEREAS, Brian Carey was a Brother Rice High School graduate and honors student who loved cross-country and helping others; and

WHEREAS, He spent a summer in Ireland, studied in London while a student at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and also toured Europe; and

WHEREAS, He was an avid runner and a volunteer for Life Source and PAWS; he was a member of Homewood Firefighters Local 3656; and

WHEREAS, Brian Carey was the beloved son of Brian W. and Kathleen (nee, Condon) Carey; the dear brother of Margaret, Kevin, and Anne Carey; a fond nephew, cousin, and friend of many, including Beatrice, the dog; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Brian Carey, and extend our sympathies to them at the passing of this brave young man who gave his life to help another; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brian Carey as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
