| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of John Mendenhall Sr. of Godfrey, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on November 16, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, John Howard Mendenhall Sr. was born on October 27, |
| 6 |
| 1918, in Chicago Heights, the son of John Franklin and Ethel |
| 7 |
| (Evans) Mendenhall; he married the former Alice L. Reid on June |
| 8 |
| 20, 1942, in Chicago; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He received a B.S. in metallurgical engineering |
| 10 |
| from the University of Illinois; he was employed at Olin Brass |
| 11 |
| as a metallurgical engineer for more than 40 years, as a brass |
| 12 |
| alloys expert, retiring in 1985; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the Community Congregational |
| 14 |
| UCC in Godfrey for many years and then transferred membership |
| 15 |
| to the Evangelical UCC in Godfrey, where he sang with his wife |
| 16 |
| in the choir; he was a member of the American Society for |
| 17 |
| Testing and Materials (ASTM), which he joined in 1961 and |
| 18 |
| became a fellow in their society; he loved to golf, was an avid |
| 19 |
| reader, worked as a volunteer at the Crisis Food Center for 20 |
| 20 |
| years, and was a loyal Chicago White Sox fan; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and one |
