| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Richard "Dick" Solomon, who passed away |
| 4 |
| on October 29, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Solomon was born and raised in |
| 6 |
| Bloomington; he earned his bachelor's degree in fire protection |
| 7 |
| and safety engineering in 1955 from the Illinois Institute of |
| 8 |
| Technology; that same year, he married his wife, Jane; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, After a short stint in the United States Navy |
| 10 |
| during the late 1950s, Richard Solomon moved with his family to |
| 11 |
| Naperville and began working as assistant chief engineer for |
| 12 |
| the Illinois Inspection and Rating Bureau in Chicago; from 1967 |
| 13 |
| to 2007, he operated his own fire protection and engineering |
| 14 |
| consulting firm out of his home, serving as the primary |
| 15 |
| engineer and lead consultant to more than 65 municipalities and |
| 16 |
| fire districts in Illinois and nearby states; during this time, |
| 17 |
| he served for more than 30 years as a DuPage County fire |
| 18 |
| marshal and nearly 25 years as a paid on-call firefighter in |
| 19 |
| Naperville; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Solomon was a nationally known fire |
| 21 |
| protection expert and consultant and a passionate advocate of |
| 22 |
| sprinkler systems; he was responsible for the installation of |
