| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Ruth Naomi Ulmer, who passed away on |
| 4 |
| October 15, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer was born on February 17, 1916, in |
| 6 |
| Wahalak, Mississippi; her parents were Doug and Jenny Stennis; |
| 7 |
| and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, In 1927, Ruth Ulmer was baptized and became a |
| 9 |
| member of the First Baptist Church of Wahalak, Mississippi; in |
| 10 |
| 1938, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of |
| 11 |
| the late Rev. Haney; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In September of 1943, Ruth Ulmer became a |
| 13 |
| State-certified beautician and became one of many |
| 14 |
| entrepreneurs who styled hair in her kitchen; in 1944, she was |
| 15 |
| united in holy matrimony to George Washington Ulmer; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Ruth Ulmer was a faithful member of Mt. Zion |
| 17 |
| Baptist Church; she served as president of the Pastor's Aid |
| 18 |
| under Mt. Zion pastors W.B. House, C. Cedric Claiborne, and |
| 19 |
| John H. Rouse; she was also a member and President of the |
| 20 |
| Gospel Chorus; in 1998, she moved to Los Angeles, California |
| 21 |
| and became a member of the Faithful Central Church, where her |
