| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of F. George "Steve" Stevenson of Godfrey, |
| 4 |
| who passed away on August 30, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, F. George "Steve" Stevenson was born February 21, |
| 6 |
| 1926, in Salem, the son of Edgar and Minnie (Mundweiler) |
| 7 |
| Stevenson; he married the former Lucille Niermann on September |
| 8 |
| 19, 1948, in Hoyleton; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He began working in the automobile business in |
| 10 |
| 1948 in Alton with Walz Oldsmobile; he established Quality |
| 11 |
| Pontiac in Alton in 1958 and continued to serve as president |
| 12 |
| until his death; he worked alongside his two sons, Greg and |
| 13 |
| David, and two grandsons, Chad and Cody; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the |
| 15 |
| Pacific during World War II as a signalman; he was a member of |
| 16 |
| Alton VFW Post 1308, an active member of Evangelical United |
| 17 |
| Church of Christ in Godfrey for 60 years, a member of Lockhaven |
| 18 |
| Country Club, and an avid golfer; he served on numerous |
| 19 |
| Automobile Dealers Councils at the State and national levels, |
| 20 |
| and he was formerly a member of the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club; |
