SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3
learn of the death of Tarvie Hayes Saunders, who passed away on 
4
May 14, 2009; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, She was born on May 7, 1914 in Greenville, 
6
Mississippi to Charles (Grandpa) and Priscilla Hayes; she 
7
attended school in Mississippi; she was baptized Catholic at 
8
St. Leo Church; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, She was raised by her father and her sister, Lovie 
10
Shores, and various aunts; she married Arthur Saunders on July 
11
21, 1933 and they were together for 65 years; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Mother Tarvie Saunders enjoyed playing her 
13
harmonica and telling stories of her childhood and life; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her son, Arthur 
15
Saunders Jr.; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Mother Tarvie is survived by her children, Naomi 
17
(Cleophus) Sanders, Isabelle (Simon) Conda, Arthurine 
18
(Elifast) Basora, Tarvie Ann (Jerome) Roberts, Esther (Tommy) 
19
Crawford, Charles (Sharon Renee) Saunders, Priscilla Chambers, 
20
and Sara Johnson; her daughter-in-law, Carol Saunders; her

thirty grandchildren; her fifty-eight great-grandchildren; her 
2
thirteen great-great-grandcildren; and a host of nieces, 
3
nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends; therefore, be it

 
4
    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL 
5
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
6
her family and friends, the passing of Mother Tarvie Saunders; 
7
and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to the family of Tarvie Hayes Saunders as a symbol of 
10
our sincere sympathy.
