SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The Solheim Cup is a biennial trans-Atlantic team 
3
match play competition featuring the best United States-born 
4
players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) 
5
Tour and the best European-born players from the Ladies 
6
European Tour (LET); and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The Solheim Cup will be held at Rich Harvest Farms 
8
in Sugar Grove from August 17-23, 2009; the event is expected 
9
to draw an estimated attendance of 150,000 spectators for the 
10
week; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, The Solheim Cup will be a boon for the economy for 
12
the communities in the area, bringing people from around the 
13
world; local hotels, restaurants, and retail venues will 
14
benefit from this event; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, The Solheim Cup will be broadcast worldwide and 
16
will bring the area in and around Kane County into the 
17
forefront of the international golf tourism arena; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, The young people of the area will experience 
19
opportunities to meet role models from the LPGA and LET, and 
20
have various chances to interact and learn during this event;

therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL 
2
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the many 
3
benefits of the 2009 Solheim Cup coming to the State of 
4
Illinois and support the event; and be it further

 
5
    RESOLVED, That we declare August of 2009 as Solheim Cup 
6
Month in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to representatives of the LPGA and LET as symbols of 
9
our respect and esteem.
