| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Geraldine (Hamilton) McCullough of Oak |
| 4 |
| Park, who passed away on December 15, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough was born in Mason County, |
| 6 |
| Arkansas; she spent her formative years in Chicago; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough graduated from The Art |
| 8 |
| Institute of Chicago with a Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree |
| 9 |
| in Painting and Art Education; she went on to teach in the |
| 10 |
| Chicago Public Schools and served as Chairman of the Art |
| 11 |
| Department for twelve years at Rosary College (now Dominican |
| 12 |
| University) in River Forest; she received an Honorary Doctorate |
| 13 |
| Degree from Dominican University after her retirement; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine McCullough's work is exhibited at the |
| 15 |
| Smithsonian in Washington D.C., the National Women's Museum in |
| 16 |
| Washington D.C., and many other galleries and museums; in 1965, |
| 17 |
| she received the George D. Widener Gold Medal for sculpting for |
| 18 |
| her mixed-metal sculpture, entitled Phoenix; in 2000, she was |
| 19 |
| presented the Oak Park Area Arts Council's Joseph Randall |
| 20 |
| Shapiro Award, an award given annually in recognition of |
| 21 |
| "exceptional contributions to the Arts"; and
