| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Anna Shepard of Oak Park, who passed away |
| 4 |
| on December 30, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Anna Shepard was born on September 28, 1920; her |
| 6 |
| parents were Albert and Martha (Ginter) Pawelski of Chicago; |
| 7 |
| she grew up in the Logan Square area of Chicago; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Interested in classical music and having a strong |
| 9 |
| contralto voice, Anna Shepard attended the Chicago |
| 10 |
| Conservatory of Music, where she was invited into the Master |
| 11 |
| Oratorio Class taught by Dr. Edgar Nelson, conservatory |
| 12 |
| president; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Anna Shepard was a soloist for various |
| 14 |
| Chicago-area churches, as well as Temple Sholom, where she was |
| 15 |
| a member of the solo octet for seven years; she was also a |
| 16 |
| soloist in the oratorios of Bach and other Baroque composers at |
| 17 |
| the University of Chicago's Collegium Musicum; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Anna Shepard was a member of First Baptist Church |
| 19 |
| of Oak Park and the Chi Sigma cultural group; she was a singer |
| 20 |
| in various McDowell Artists productions, an interpreter for the |
| 21 |
| Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust for 15 years, and a tour |
